Running A. Fowl of Fairies: An Evening with Eoin Colfer

Fowl.  Artemis Fowl…not quite a super spy but a super genius most definitely.   If you have never read any of the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin (pronounced Owen) Colfer you are missing quite a literary treat. 

Artemis Fowl is a teenage genius with a penchant for trouble and the time and money to get into it.  Unfortunately, his plans have involved the fairy folk of the Earth and they are not happy about it! 

The latest installment in this series (The Time Paradox, #6) has just been released to much acclaim and fanfare.   With the help of the fairy folk he must travel back in time to save the life of his mother.  She has contracted a deadly disease for which the cure is an animal that is now extinct.  Artemis must face his most devious and ruthless adversary yet to stop that extinction.  The one responsible is none other than…himself, a few years younger. 

To truly get a feel for Artemis and the relationships he has developed, I would start with the first book in the series, simply titled Artemis Fowl, and continue from there.  Each of these books is a fun read for all ages.  They contain magic and the unseen, but also courage, friendship and growth.  You will see the characters develop, even as the “plans” unfold and the plots thickens.  Even though geared more towards middle readers, these books can be enjoyed by kids of all ages!  Even those that thought they had stopped believing in Fairies, Centaurs and Demons.  Everyone will have fun with this series. 

And to add to the fun, in promotion of The Time Paradox, Eoin Colfer himself will be in town on July 25th, 2008, brought by Changing Hands Bookstore.  He will be appearing at the Mesa Arts Center Piper Theater, starting at 6:00 P.M., with his one-man show, Fairies, Fiends and Flatulence giving insight into Artemis and all of his characters.  This is a very exciting show that includes music, speaking, pictures and a fog machine!  You can experience a taste of this show at www.artemisfowl.com.  This clip will only leave you wanting to see the show and experience all that is Artemis Fowl and Eoin Colfer!  Radio Disney will be joining the fun, broadcasting from outside the venue before the show starts.  You will know you are in the right place by the Artemis Fowl tour bus that will be there as well.
