Phoenix Sister Cities Welcomes International Youth Ambassadors

July 15, 2008 · Published By Editor

Phoenix Sister Cities Commission welcomes international youth ambassadors to the Valley of the Sun. The students from Calgary, Canada; Catania, Italy; Chengdu, China; Ennis, Ireland; Grenoble, France; Hermosillo, Mexico; Himeji, Japan; Prague, Czech Republic; Ramat Gan, Israel; and Taipei, Taiwan will get a glimpse of life in America as they participate in several events during their stay in Phoenix.

Ranging in age from 16 to 18, the visiting high school students are in Arizona on a reciprocal visit and will stay in the home of the Phoenix youth ambassador that visited their home at the beginning of the summer.

The international students will participate in a welcome ceremony on July 21, which includes lunch and tours of the Japanese Friendship Garden and Irish Cultural Center. The students also will participate in an Arizona State University Education and Team Challenge Day in Tempe and get to experience a real live American high school Prom where they can wear formal attire. Other highlights include visiting with the Mayor, touring city-owned public television station PHX11, participating in a community service project at St. Vincent de Paul, and enjoying Thanksgiving Dinner the day before their farewell pool party on Aug. 2.
