Roux Morgue by Mystery Author Claire M. Johnson
July 2, 2008 · Published By Editor
Poisoned Pen Press has published the second Claire Johnson mystery featuring pastry chef Mary Ryan. But don’t think that Roux Morgue is the usual cookbook mystery. There are no recipes in the back. This is a hard edged mystery filled with restaurant lore. Mary Ryan is feisty, smart, and a little pig-headed. When she finds herself teaching back at her old alma mater in San Francisco with Homicide Detective O‚’Connor enrolled as a student she is not so sure that her luck has changed for the better. Tensions mount until even the people she thought were her friends become suspect. Then when one is found murdered and Chef Mary is forced to step in and lend a hand before another chef has baked his last dessert.
Publishers Weekly gave Roux Morgue a starred review calling it “an enjoyable romp that should gain Johnson new fans.”
Library Journal wrote “Girl Power! The chick-lit mystery subgenre has been reinventing itself for a while. Claire Johnson uses a culinary school in Roux Morgue to illustrate how a young chef can be exceptional both at her profession and snooping around solving murders.”
