(Scottsdale, AZ) – On Thursday, July 3, Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross as well as other local dignitaries and City Council members will be kicking-off the 12th annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale Independence Parade. This community event starts at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Lane Branch located at 8250 E. Rose Ln., Scottsdale, AZ 85250. The Mayor will be speaking about the positive impact the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale has on the local community as well as announce the winners of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale essay contest, “Why I am Proud to be an American.” There will be seven award winners: first, second, and third place and four honorable mention winners who will win cash prizes. The parade follows the awards ceremony and will feature “floats” made from ordinary items like scooters, wagons, grocery carts and anything else with wheels. Around 200 Club members are expected to take part in the event, which will also include the Scottsdale Police and Fire Departments.
This yearly event is just one of the many programs that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale has developed to teach club members self-esteem and a sense of belonging, leadership and participation in the community.
