Producer George Lucas has had crystal skulls on the brain for years now: “We did ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles,’ and in the process of that, one of the scripts we were working on was about a crystal skull,” he has said. “I became fascinated with it.” (NY Post, April 20, 2008).
This will be the skull’s first public appearance since the Cannes Film Festival. Bill Homann, keeper of the skull, will share a PowerPoint presentation on the history of this archaeological artifact. A Summer Solstice Ceremony with a special guest from Belize. This event is a fundraiser for the Mayan Cultural Center being built in Belize near where the Crystal Skull was found.
Bill Homann, keeper of the skull and the Mitchell-Hedges Skull, appeared in the documentary film, “The Mystery of the Crystal Skulls”, which aired in May, 2008 on the Sci-Fi Channel.
The Mitchell-Hedges family loaned the skull to Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, a leading facility for crystal research, for extensive study in 1970. The HP examinations yielded some startling results. Researchers found that the skull had been carved against the natural axis of the crystal. Modern crystal sculptors always take into account the axis, or orientation of the crystal’s molecular symmetry, because if they carve “against the grain,” the piece is bound to shatter — even with the use of lasers and other high-tech cutting methods. To compound the strangeness, HP could find no microscopic scratches on the crystal that would indicate it had been carved with metal instruments. Experts believe that successfully crafting a shape as complex as the Mitchell-Hedges skull is impossible; as one HP researcher is said to have remarked, “The damned thing simply shouldn’t be.”
Bill explained that at his first meeting with Anna in 1981, he felt as if he had known her forever. They became instant friends. “When I saw the Crystal Skull for the first time it felt like meeting with an old friend,” states Bill. “There was a feeling of respect, connection and communication with it. I felt compelled to work with it.”
He cared for Anna the last eight years of her life. “Because of our strong bond she has honored me by trusting that I will carry on her wishes concerning the future of the skull,” he continued.
A message from Bill:
“I believe the main message that the skull is trying to share with the world is for all of us to drop our egos and to work with and support each other as if we are all one – that all living beings contribute to the whole and all are sacred. We are not separate from each other; we are all connected through love. Rather than live in our own single-minded consciousness, we need to embrace unity consciousness and this is why we are now calling this “The Skull of Love.”
“There are many stories and beliefs about what the skull is, where it came from and how it was made. I cannot honestly say I know for sure any of those answers. No one does. It is up to each person to come to his or her own conclusion and beliefs. The skull should be experienced in order to get an intuitive feeling about what it means for you.”
The Mitchell-Hedges Skull was allegedly found by English explorer F.A. Mitchell-Hedges’ adopted daughter, Anna, in a Mayan pyramid in Lubaantun, Belize (then British Honduras) in 1924. This Skull has defied rational explanation and dumbfounded archaeologists, scientists, mystics and art-critics for decades. The Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull is known as ‘the world’s most mysterious artifact’. Bill will be traveling internationally with the Crystal Skull all throughout the remainder of 2008.
