How To Protect Your Valuables
If you’re planning to move to a new house or apartment, you’re not alone. The government estimates more than 40 million Americans move annually. And while many of those millions will worry about having their prized possessions damaged or lost during the move, there are ways to protect your valuables.
No matter how carefully you pack your belongings, there is always a chance something will get damaged. Moving companies usually have very limited insurance coverage, so experts recommend having homeowners or renters insurance for more comprehensive coverage. Additional coverage is also recommended for high cost items like artwork or electronics. It’s also a good idea to create a videotaped inventory of your belongings before you move.
There is still work to do when you have moved all your belongings. Immediately after your move, you should go through all your items to make sure nothing has been damaged so you don’t go past the time limit for filing a claim. Moving can be stressful, but the proper insurance coverage can give you one less thing to worry about.
